Dr. Jan Stewart (she/her)

Is the Dean of the Faculty of Education at the University of Manitoba, and is a trailblazer in creating inclusive, equitable, and affirming environments for all students and staff. Under her leadership, the Faculty of Education has prioritized diversity, equity, and inclusion as core principles that shape its programs, policies, and practices.

Recognizing the importance of addressing the unique challenges faced by 2SLGBTQIA+ students and educators, Dr. Stewart has been instrumental in fostering an environment where identities are celebrated, and voices are uplifted. Her dedication is evident in initiatives such as curriculum development to include 2SLGBTQIA+ perspectives, workshops for faculty and students on gender and sexual diversity, and partnerships with community organizations to promote safe and affirming educational spaces.

Her efforts have garnered respect both within and beyond the university community, as she continues to advocate for systemic change that supports 2SLGBTQIA+ equity in schools, universities, and society at large. Dr. Stewart’s leadership not only shapes the next generation of educators but also sets a standard for what inclusive leadership can achieve.

Robert Mizzi

Dr. Robert Mizzi

Dr. Robert Mizzi (he/him) is the Canada Research Chair in Queer, Community and Diversity Education and Professor in the Faculty of Education at the University of Manitoba. His unwavering commitment to 2SLGBTQIA+ communities has led to numerous collaborations, publications, awards, and grants. Dr. Mizzi is a member of the International Adult and Continuing Education Hall of Fame and the Royal Society of Canada.

Dr. Lucy Delgado

Dr. Lucy Delgado, PhD (she/they), is a Two-Spirit Métis woman, born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Lucy is a community organizer, involved in a variety of local and national groups, including as the Two-Spirit Michif Local of the Manitoba Métis Federation. Lucy is Co-Editor of Pawaatamihk: Journal of Métis Thinkers, and an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Education at the University of Manitoba, with a research and teaching focus on Métis youth identity, Indigenous education, queer theory, hip-hop pedagogies, and youth cultures.

Shawn Darby

Shawn Darby (he/him/his), is an academic and educator in the Faculty of Education who self-identifies as a cisgender gay man. He has been an advocate for 2SLGBTQIA+ rights throughout his career as a public-school teacher and school principal. He has worked to build 2SLGBTQIA+ awareness and representation across at both school and provincial levels. Shawn continues his work in the Faculty of Education through his dedication to addressing systemic inequity and bias in educator practice.
