Biography

I am a sociolinguist, and the editor of the Canadian Journal of Linguistics as well as Canada Research Chair in Language Interactions (Tier II, 2014-2023). I direct the Languages in the Prairies Project for the study of English, French and Michif as spoken in the region, focusing primarily on the sociophonetic investigation of interactions between languages. I am particularly interested in languages in minority situations and language endangerment. I have published one book, Nominal Contact in Michif, with Oxford University Press, and am currently working on another under contract with Cambridge University Press, entitled The Languages of Canada: An Introduction
