Biography

A long-time practitioner of meditation, Dr. Whicher is a Professor in the Department of Religion at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Canada. He specializes in the Yoga tradition and is the author of scholarly books and numerous articles including The Integrity of the Yoga Darśana (State University of New York Press) and Essays on the Yoga-Sutra: Engaging the World in Freedom (Motilal Banarsidass). He has given numerous scholarly, public and contemplative talks around the world. He is presently researching the topic of Freedom and the Principle of Intelligence (Buddhi) in Yoga funded by a Social Science and Humanities Research Council of Canada Insight Grant and is writing a book on the deeper dimension of Yoga for a broad readership.
