School of Art Room Bookings

Room booking regulations

  1. The user shall not leave garbage in or around the space; it will be kept in a clean and sanitary condition.  
  2. The user must leave the space in the same condition that it was in prior to booking. Damage caused by the user, or the user leaving the space in an unclean or messy condition may result in the U of M charging the user for the costs for repairs, replacement of property or cleaning.  
  3. The user must immediately report all damages to the space to the School of Art. 
  4. The user assumes responsibility for anyone they admit to the space, if applicable. 
  5. The user must comply with all School of Art rules and directions respecting the space and all university policies.  
  6. The School of Art retains the right to interrupt, cancel or terminate a booking or not accept further bookings for inappropriate conduct or breach of these rules by users. 

Room booking for instructors

Instructors are asked to book one room for critiques if their assigned classroom is a non-install space or the hallway is insufficient.  The office is no longer booking rooms for individual students unless they are for Student Group meetings.

Once the room is booked, an email confirmation will be sent out.  Instructors are asked to notify their students upon confirmation of room booking.

Room booking for students

Students requiring the use of an additional or use of a specific room/space (including Senior Studio) must fill out the permission to install form a minimum of 5 working days prior. Instructors must sign the form before it is handed in. 

You can submit your form by sending a scanned copy of the permission to install form to Sue.StoneScott@umanitoba.ca

Once the form is approved, an email confirmation will be sent out. 

 Photography Lighting Studio:

The lighting studio in 462 ARTlab is available for student use, but any student who wishes to use the space must have completed the Lighting Studio Training Workshop to the satisfaction of the Photography Technician at the School of Art. 

To arrange to attend the Lighting Studio Training Workshop you must contact the Photography Technician. You can send them an email to, soamcrib@umanitoba.ca

Booking audiovisual equipment

Media Crib

The Media Crib has a variety of digital and analogue equipment that can be borrowed by School of Art students and staff. Please visit the Media Crib webpage for details on what can be borrowed.

A/V Booking & Support:

Students who wish to book A/V equipment through Audiovisual and Multi-Media Services on Campus must book through their instructor. Charges occurred are covered by the individual booking the equipment.

Room types

Meeting rooms – Taché 487, ARTlab 409
Non-install Rooms 136, 364, 366, 368, 462, and Tache T152.
ARTlab Room 467 may be used as a light-controlled space for projections only. 
ARTlab Room 364, 366 and 368 are available for projector use.
ARTlab Install Rooms  340, 360, 370, 436, 460, 464, 466, 467, 468 and 470.
Taché Hall, Dark Room T158.
Lighting studio ARTlab 462 can only be booked M-F, 9 am to 4 pm.

Installing DO’s and DON’Ts:

DO's  DONT's
Use pushpins or painter’s tape  Hammer or use nails – it ruins the structural integrity of the walls   
Use drywall screws for hanging  Use screws longer than 3”
Know the weight limits for hanging   Use Velcro, double-sided or any other tape or adhesive 
Consult Dan for proper tools for install Install without permission
Repair the wall and de-install your work immediately after your class Leave your installation lying around/installed past your critique date  
See Dan for spackle, paint, supplies to fix walls Assume a room is free to use because it is empty
