AA (Double A); A Way to Live
Canada is a vast country with much potential, and its population is increasing daily, but due to various reasons, such as the long and harsh cold weather, which shortens the useful period of agriculture, or issues such as drought or extreme wetness of the soil, or the existence of water potholes and lakes, or difficult access in some areas, is practically facing an agricultural crisis. But on the other hand, this country has many farmers and lands, and its freshwater sources are also excellent and usable. Therefore, these questions became the primary basis of my thesis project.
Questions and issues started to be discovered as soon as I found these notes and labels on salads, fruits, food ingredients, etc.
“Product of Honduras”
“Made from imported ingredients.”
“Produced in Mexico”
“Imported from California”
As we move to the northern regions of Canada, this becomes more and more of an issue. Because they are generally deprived of the possibility of agriculture, and as a result, they have to pay more to buy products. In addition to this, many of them do not have adequate income, so one of the possible ways was to build a greenhouse for one of the cities that lacks it. Also, due to the fishing culture and tradition of the Baker Lake community, fishing became another addition to the project. And finally, a local market to supply them with products. In a city like Baker Lake, which is far away from many other cities around it and does not have the ability to produce vegetables, The existence of a greenhouse can significantly improve the community and pursue many United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. In addition, the greenhouse can help a lot in reducing carbon emissions. Also, only two wind turbines can be enough to supply the entire energy of this building.
Finale Note:
The proposed project, “New sustainable farming/marketing facilities for Baker Lake,” is trying to meet the needs of a part of the city by producing vegetables and fish. However, as in the past, the culture of hunting to consumption has been a reason for gathering and customs and rituals; not only has production been considered in this project, but spaces for community and gathering have also been formed. Also, in the market that is adjacent to the project, in addition to selling products, a cafe has also been considered. In general, in this project, an effort has been made to make this place an important point in the city, to be the heart of the production and consumption of products. As a result, this project can answer part of their needs.
