A Place For Her: A Resource Focused Outreach + Transitional Housing Community for Women and Children
The homelessness crisis in Canada is a diverse and complex issue resulting from poverty and lack of affordable housing, made worse by severe social issues like mental illness, addiction and domestic violence - a significant cause for women and gender diverse people.
With domestic violence being a significant cause of homelessness for women and gender diverse people, and without access to suitable housing options, women are often forced to live in unacceptable environments, and often, women escaping from abusive relationships feel forced to return to their abusers.
A Place For Her is a transitional housing community for women and their children, intended to offer not only a safe and secure space to heal from trauma but also access to resource supports such as counseling services, job training, access to caseworkers and childcare. A Place For Her is intended to collaborate closely with other women’s organizations to provide services within a larger communal support structure and to increase awareness and improve the overall usage and success of the currently available services within the community.
