Dean's Design Charette
About the Design Charette
A design charette typically is a short collaborative design exercise. The format allows teams to explore solutions quickly and provide a range of responses to a given challenge. For the Dean’s Design Charette, we will focus on three themes:
- Community / Connection
- Accessibility / Inclusion
- Land / Sustainability
The impetus for the charette is the poor condition of the south entrance stairs of the Architecture 2 Building. The need to repair or replace the stair gives us the opportunity to carefully and creatively consider the role of the stair as a connector. Who and what can be connected? How can the stair and the area adjacent to it provide both an entrance and a space that is accessible and inclusive to everyone?
The Dean’s Design Charette is open to Faculty of Architecture students in all levels and all disciplines and is a fun way to meet new students and think together about important issues as they relate to the spaces we use. Interested students can sign up online after the Food for Thought introduction of the charette on Thursday, September 15th, and interdisciplinary teams of students will be created and announced later that day.
The winning designs will be announced on Monday, September 19th and prizes awarded!
