Money, Sex, and Power: Christian Ethics in Context

Course Title: Money, Sex, and Power: Christian Ethics in Context

Instructor: Dr Michael Buttrey

Time: Thursdays, 6-8:45pm

Location: Online.

Description: In this course, we will examine the sources and topics of Christian ethics. The sources include scripture, the church past and present, and experience and reason along with theology, philosophy, worship, prayer, and character. In dialogue with these sources and each other, students will explore perspectives on politics, just war and pacifism, bioethics at the beginning and end of life, medical assistance in dying (MAID), sexual abuse in churches, wealth and business, ecology and vegetarianism.  The concepts, distinctions, texts, and questions presented in the course will help students practice integrating disparate sources and perspectives and give them resources to better assist family, friends, neighbours, and parishioners in thinking through ethical issues. Many of the examples and assignments will promote explicit reflection on church contexts student have or will encounter.
