Research and teaching interests

My research and teaching interests are in the areas of big data science, databases, data mining and machine learning. These include big data management, data analytics and visual analytics in various real-life application areas (for example: bioinformatics, computational intelligence, health informatics, information visualization, predictive analytics, social network analysis and transportation analytics). Specifically, I am interested in designing and developing techniques to efficiently and effectively store and manage various types of data ranging from supermarket transactions to bio-medical/health records to Web/social network/multimedia data like images. I am also interested in designing algorithms to visualize and analyze huge amounts of data to discover interesting and valuable knowledge from the data and provide users with Business Intelligent solutions for their real-world applications. The knowledge discovered by my data science solution includes frequently occurring patterns, common trends, as well as unusual or suspicious behaviours.
