MCNHR Graduate Student Research Grant

Funded by the College of Nursing Endowment Fund and Winnifred Ruane Trust Fund

Deadline: April 15 and November 1

The MCNHR offers graduate student research grants to support the costs associated with thesis or dissertation research projects for graduate students being supervised by a College of Nursing faculty member. There are six to eight awards available annually.

Masters students can request up to $3,000 to support their thesis research projects; PhD students can request up to $5,000 to support their dissertation projects.

      Poppy Trust Fund Research Grant

      Funded by the Fort Garry Branch Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Trust Fund

      Deadline: April 15

      This grant provides support for a research project whose outcome contributes to either enhancing the care for veterans or their families or enhancing care for older adults in Manitoba. There is one award of $3,000 available annually.

      B. W. Fallis Parkinson’s Care Research Grant

      Deadline: April 15

      This grant provides funding for both qualitative and/or quantitative research examining the physical and/or psychosocial aspects of Parkinson’s disease (PD). This includes but is not limited to projects aimed at improving quality of life and care for persons living with Parkinson’s or their families, examining ethical issues that arise during the care of people living with PD, increasing understanding and treatment of non-motor and motor symptoms of PD, addressing issues related to family caregiving, and facilitating access to services and supports for people living with Parkinson’s disease and their families. Research can focus on any phase of the illness trajectory of Parkinson’s disease from early diagnosis to end-of-life care. Biomedical and/or bench research in Parkinson’s disease is not eligible for this funding opportunity. There is one award of $4,500 available annually.

      College of Nursing Endowment Fund Graduate Student Conference Award

      Deadline: Minimum 30 days before conference attendance.

      The College of Nursing Endowment Fund has allocated $10,000 a year to the MCNHR to offer a College of Nursing Endowment Fund Graduate Student Conference Award to support students to present at in-person or virtual conferences. Applications will be considered on a first-come first-served basis until yearly funds have been depleted.

      Kenneth Clark Travel Award

      Deadline: Minimum 30 days before conference attendance.

      Dr. Kenneth Clark established an endowment fund at the University of Manitoba for the purpose of providing travel awards for nursing graduate students.

      The Manitoba Centre for Nursing and Health Research’s Research Grant provides funding for research projects. There are two (2) awards available with funding up to a maximum of $7,500 each.

      MCNHR Collaborative Health Research Grant

      Deadline: April 15

      The MCNHR Collaborative Research Grant Fund was established to support the development of collaborative research in the College of Nursing, University of Manitoba. This fund provides an annual research grant in the amount of $7,500 to support research projects that involve collaborative teams.

      Professional Foundation Research Grant

      Funded by the College of Nursing Endowment Fund

      Deadline: April 15

      The Profession Foundations Research Grant funded by the College of Nursing Endowment Fund provides small-scale funding for research into areas considered to be foundational to nursing as a profession. Professional foundations include topics such as history of nursing and nursing work-life, professional ethics, and nursing administration as well as topics critical to the College of Nursing, such as research into new, innovative approaches to nursing education and issues related to student life. There are two (2) awards with funding to a maximum of $7,500 each.

      Open Access Publishing Fund

      Funded by the College of Nursing Endowment Fund

      Deadline: Upon paper acceptance for publication.

      The College of Nursing Endowment Fund has allocated $10,000 to the Manitoba Center for Nursing and Health Research (MCNHR) to establish an Open Access Publishing Fund to support the costs of faculty publishing in open access journals. Please note that the 2020-2021 funds have been depleted.
