What you can do

Get your free library card

To borrow from the University of Manitoba Libraries, you require a Retired Staff photo ID card.

If you have a SignUM account (retired in or after 2015)If you do not have a SignUM account (retired prior to 2015)

Login to SignUM using your UMNetID

  1. Select "Request Access" -- press the "Request for self" option that appears.
  2. From the list of categories, add “Libraries” to your cart. Click "Next"
  3. Under "Justification" add "Retired"
  4. Click "Submit."

Allow up to 24 hours for account to activate.

Account renewal

  • You will receive an email when your account is up for renewal.
  • You will need to login to SignUM to and re-accept the usage agreement.
  • Annual renewal required.

  • You will need to contact us via email, or visit any UM Library in person, to renew your access.

Access electronic resources

On campus

Retirees may access all electronic resources while on campus or visiting a UM library.

  • Your Library ID and password may be requested for authentication.

Off campus/remote

  • Due to the UM Libraries' license agreements, our electronic resources are not accessible remotely to retirees.

All electronic resources are to be used for research, study and teaching and not for commercial purposes.

Scan materials

Printing is not available for retirees; however, there are options for downloading and sending content from the Guest Kiosk.

A stand-alone scanner may also be available for scanning print material and sending it to an email address.  Check with the library's service desk.
