Retired faculty and staff users
UM Libraries offers UM retired faculty and staff with services and access to collections.
What you can do
Get your free library card
To borrow from the University of Manitoba Libraries, you require a Retired Staff photo ID card.
- Complete the Borrower Registration Form (PDF)
- Submit your form by visiting any UM library.
Account renewal
- You will receive an email when your account is up for renewal.
- You will need to contact us via email, or visit any UM Library in person, to renew your access.
- Annual renewal required.
You can visit any UM library or email for assistance with getting your free library card.

Access electronic resources
On campus
Retirees may access all electronic resources while on campus or visiting a UM library.
- Your Library ID and password may be requested for authentication.
Off campus/remote
- Due to the UM Libraries' license agreements, our electronic resources are not accessible remotely to retirees.
All electronic resources are to be used for research, study and teaching and not for commercial purposes.
Borrow library materials
Borrowing and item use describes your borrowing privileges and item loan terms.
- Retirees may use the Self-Checkout kiosk in any UM Libraries location
Access materials to discover the many ways to access our collections.
- Retirees may request physical items from catalogue search results for retrieval at any of our Pickup Lockers.
Scan materials
Printing is not available for retirees; however, there are options for downloading and sending content from the Guest Kiosk.
A stand-alone scanner may also be available for scanning print material and sending it to an email address. Check with the library's service desk.
