Support Reconciliation and Indigenous excellence

Indigenous student excellence at UM

Indigenous students pursue many different post-secondary paths. At UM, through moments of transition, connection and growth, we see how Indigenous excellence is nurtured here, in a place where students are grounded in culture and supported to lead. Different paths, one place to begin.

Indigenous student awards

Financial barriers are one of the most significant challenges facing Indigenous students. Through bursaries and scholarships, donors can help undergraduate and graduate students access transformative educational opportunities.

National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation

The National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation (NCTR) is a place of learning and dialogue where the truths of the residential school experience are honoured and kept safe for future generations. UM is humbled to be the host of the NCTR and to partner with them in the ongoing journey of Truth and Reconciliation.

Help build a new home for the NCTR

When the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation (NCTR) was established, Survivors had a vision to create a place where the truths of their residential school experiences would be honoured and kept safe for future generations. In its new permanent home, the NCTR will serve as a beacon where history and Indigenous cultures come to life. Your gift will help create an international learning lodge where the truths are not forgotten and where the courage of Residential Schools Survivors can guide us to a better future.

Reconciliation starts with education and learning and commemorating the truth of our history. Learning from First Nations, Métis, and Inuit knowledge keepers is an important part on the path of truth and Reconciliation. Students learn directly from residential school Survivors, Indigenous artists, athletes and other subject matter experts about topics, including the gifts Indigenous Peoples bring to the world, language, culture, the history of residential schools, and how learners and educators can take action towards truth and Reconciliation.

NCTR’s Imagine a Canada

That is the challenge youth from across Canada respond to by submitting their ideas of how a reconciled Canada looks to them. The Imagine a Canada Program is a shining example of the NCTR’s educational programming, inviting young people from across Canada to inspire and lead us to a better future. Your gift empowers youth to imagine and build a reconciled Canada through art, essays and action plans.
