  • Congratulations from Acting Dean Rod Lastra

On behalf of my colleagues in the Division of Extended Education at the University of Manitoba, I want to congratulate you on your achievements. Earning a Certificate or Letter of Accomplishment at any time is worth celebrating but at this particularly challenging time in our lives, it is even more noteworthy. The pandemic has reminded us all of the importance of being able to adapt quickly, learn independently, and search for new ways to apply what we learn, and I trust that the courses you have taken through Extended Education have allowed you to “extend” your learning in these ways. Although there continues to be uncertainty about when our current challenges will end, we have faith that all 498 of you graduating from 20 different programs will be well-positioned to thrive in the post-COVID era, thanks to the time you spent in Extended Education. Congratulations once again and best wishes for the future. Stay safe and keep well!

What to wear to your convocation ceremony

The convocation ceremony is a formal occasion, so dress clothes are appropriate. We recommend that you leave your valuables with a friend or family member.

You require university-approved regalia to cross the stage. University-approved academic regalia includes robes, mortarboards, hoods or stoles, and Indigenous graduation scarves.

    Please avoid

    • Corsages and boutonnieres
    • Fraternity or sorority adornments
    • Flowers
  • Reserve your cap and gown AND book photography

Your gown rental includes a keepsake cap and tassel. Book your professional photography at the same time. Artona photographers will take a photo of you as you receive your parchment. • Family and friends attending convocation

To help ensure each graduate can have people attend the ceremony to cheer them on, we kindly ask that you limit your in-person guests to 5 people. Family and friends also have the option of attending the ceremony virtually through the interactive event portal on the UM website.

Guests should use the designated entrance to IGAC and should not accompany graduates to the Agora area in the Active Living Centre.

Doors to IGAC open one hour before the scheduled start of the ceremony. Guests are advised to be in their seats at least 15 minutes prior to the beginning of the ceremony. All guest seating is bleacher seating, which should be accessed from the third-floor level. Please use caution when going up or down the stairs.

Children are welcome, but keep in mind the ceremony is approximately 2 to 2.5 hours long. Due to fire regulations, baby strollers cannot be left in the aisles of IGAC.

For family and friends who are unable to attend the ceremony, a live webcast of the convocation ceremony will be broadcast.
