Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this course, you should be able to:
- explain, in practical and theoretical terms, why family violence occurs
- recognize the myths and realities of family violence
- recognize and examine personal attitudes and feelings about family violence
- explain how family violence affects individuals who are victimized and why it can be difficult for many to speak out and seek help, support and safety
- explain why individuals use violence against others
- effectively assess and appropriately intervene with victims and offenders of family violence
- be cognizant of and adapt as needed his or her own clinical and culturally appropriate personal helping style
- identify what resources are available and appropriately utilize pertinent resources for support, referral and reporting
