Only the top-ranked applicants will be invited for the on-site assessment.

  • Submit a non-refundable fee of $1,600.00 CDN by the deadline given in the offer letter

You will also meet some current students in the undergraduate program. An online interview will be scheduled, and details will be provided to those attending the on-site assessment.

  • Assess your ability to communicate in English
  • Discuss relevant aspects of your life and practice experience

The interview lasts up to 20 minutes.

b. Psychomotor skills assessment

This assessment involves tooth preparations and/or placing restorations in typodont teeth on simulated dental mannequins. Practice sessions will be provided before the assessment day. Details will be shared only with those selected for the on-site assessment.

NOTE: Selection decisions are subjective, and the rationale is neither recorded nor provided to applicants.

  • Personal interview

  • Evaluate aspects of your life and practice experience relevant to your application to the University of Manitoba’s IDDP

The interview will last a maximum of 20 minutes.

Application submission requirements

Only fully completed applications with all necessary documentation received by the Track B application deadline in the year prior to admission will be considered in the selection process.

NOTE: Selection decisions in this category are subjective. The rationale for decisions is neither recorded nor provided to the applicant.

C. Tie-breaking procedure for offers

If there is a tie between applications, the University will:

  • Increase precision: Use more significant figures in the calculations.
  • Check submission time: If the tie remains, the application that was received first will be used to break the tie. Applications are time-stamped upon submission. For paper applications, the time stamp will be added after the application is entered into the system by a University of Manitoba Admissions Office staff member.

D. Notification of decision

When a decision is made, you will receive an email about your admission status. If you are offered admission but do not accept the offer and pay the required deposit by the deadline, the offer will lapse and be considered declined. Keep your email account current and check it regularly, or arrange for someone to check it for you.

Important information:

  • Conditional admission: Track A applicants who receive a conditional admission must provide an official NDEB confirmation that they have not participated in the NDECC and/or ACJ exams in the year of admission.
  • Notification timeline: You will be informed about your admission status by mid to late September to mid-October, the year before the program starts.
  • Deposit: To accept an offer, you must pay a non-refundable deposit of $12,500.00 CDN (subject to change). This deposit will go toward your tuition fees when you register.
  • Fee deadlines:
    • Intersession and clinic instrument fees: Late April to early May of the year the program starts
    • Term I fees: August/September
    • Term II fees: Early January

For exact deadlines, check the UM Financial Services website.

Section 5: Reconsiderations & Appeals

If you want to request a reconsideration of your application, follow these steps:

  1. Submit a request: Send your request to the Chair of the Selection Committee. Most inquiries are resolved at this level.
  2. Timeframe for reconsideration: Submit your written request to the Chair within ten (10) business days of the decision date. For contact details, see Section 8: Contact Information for Faculty.
  3. Further appeal: If you want to pursue the reconsideration further, follow the Senate Committee on Admission Appeals Procedures.

Important notes:

  • The Senate Admissions Appeal Committee reviews appeals based on whether published policies and procedures were followed correctly. They do not consider subjective issues or the merits of the application.

Section 6: Counselling of Applicants

The Dr. Gerald Niznick College of Dentistry and the Admissions Office can assist you with counseling regarding admission. However, they do not provide specific instructions on what actions to take. Instead, they offer the information you need to make your own decisions about the available options. Keep these points in mind:

  • Seek advice: Discuss your plans with knowledgeable sources. Be aware that second or third-hand information about admission policies may not be accurate.
  • No guarantees: No university official can guarantee admission. Admission is decided by the Committee based on an annual competition.
  • Written requests: Always follow up personal inquiries with a written request. Only written responses will be considered as official evidence of any advice given. For contact details, see Section 8: Contact Information.
