The Manitoba Isotope Research Facility (MIRF) is a University of Manitoba Core Research facility that provides access to state-of-the-art analytical facilities for researchers world-wide. Established in 2014, the core facility hosts one of four Secondary-Ion Mass Spectrometers (SIMS) and one of two Ar-Ar labs in Canada.
Additionally, it has a fully equipped Stable Isotope Lab (two IRMS, EAs, TC/EA, Gas Benches, GC-C), a collision cell Laser Ablation Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometer (LA-ICP-MS), an Electron Probe Microanalyzer (EPMA), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), and a Picarro water isotope analyser, along with several satellite Geochemistry Labs. Each laboratory has dedicated personnel with the technical expertise required to operate such a complex and multi-disciplinary facility.
The MIRF core facility offers hands-on opportunities for students and visiting scientists to learn and be trained on cutting-edge instrumentation. The facility also provides a wide array of analytical services for industry, academic, and government organizations world-wide.
