About the Facility

The Laser Ablation Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) Laboratory at the University of Manitoba’s Department of Earth Sciences supports high-precision elemental and isotopic analyses for a wide range of research disciplines, including geochemistry, environmental science, biology, and materials science.

The lab houses a New Wave UP213 deep-UV Nd Laser Ablation System coupled to an Agilent 8900 Triple Quadrupole ICP-MS, enabling both in situ (solid) and solution-based analyses.

Instrumentation

  • New Wave UP213 deep-UV Nd Laser Ablation System
Provides in situ microanalysis of solid samples with minimal sample preparation.
  • Agilent 8900 Triple Quadrupole ICP-MS
Delivers high sensitivity and low background detection for trace and ultra-trace element quantification and isotopic measurements.
