Hosted by The Centre for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning at the University of Manitoba, this one-day interdisciplinary event will explore Scholarship of Teaching and Learning as an integrated practice and showcase SoTL work conducted by UM faculty and staff.

The 2023 SoTL Symposium welcomes all instructors, faculty members, administrators and staff who are interested in the scholarship of teaching and learning.

Phillip Dawson, Co-Director of the Centre for Research Assessment and Digital Learning, Deakin University, Melbourne, Australia
We are excited to welcome keynote speaker Phillip (Phill) Dawson. Professor Dawson is recognized for his expertise in assessment in higher education with a focus on feedback and cheating. His keynote will address the power of assessment in SoTL. Professor Dawson will also conduct a workshop for attendees entitled "Writing SoTL That Other Scholars Will Want to Read." Participants should bring an idea that they want to develop (e.g., a paper in progress, an innovation that requires resources, an idea that needs promoting to colleagues) as well as a paper and pen or laptop.
Melanie Hamilton, Director of the Jane and Ron Graham Centre for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, University of Saskatchewan.
We also welcome Dr. Melanie Hamilton, Director of the Jane and Ron Graham Centre for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning at the University of Saskatchewan. The Graham Centre offers a master's degree in SoTL and will launch a new Ph.D. in Education SoTL Stream in Fall 2023, both of which are the first of their kind in Canada. Dr. Hamilton is Chair of SoTL Canada and the VP Canada for the International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (ISSoTL) and will discuss her experience building an institutional culture of engagement in SoTL.
