Aurora offers a streamlined, personalized experience with single sign-on access to essential tools and resources. Upon logging in, you'll arrive at your Aurora Launch page, which features information cards linking to personalized services like UM Learn, your class timetable, and exam schedule. Take a moment to familiarize yourself with the layout.

Areas of Aurora

Registration

Registration is a combination of adding, dropping, and altering your selected courses. Registration also involves browsing courses, preparing for registration, and reviewing your registration requirements.

Search for Courses and Classes

This section covers the academic offerings available to students, including core courses, electives, and labs. Students can view detailed course descriptions, class schedules, and availability. It is important to plan your courses according to degree requirements and prerequisites, ensuring steady progress toward graduation.

Browse Course Catalog - This is where you can view all senate approved courses, where you can determine the core information about each course, like course subject and description.

Browse Classes - This is where you can view the courses that are available for a given term.  You will be able to view class details like CRN, title, credit hours, schedule, instructor

Final Exam

The Exams section provides information on final exam schedules and locations. You will get a personalized view of courses you are registered in that have final exams.

Final Grades

Final grades are posted to Aurora at the end of each term. You can view your academic performance in each course. It’s important to regularly check final grades to track academic progress, identify areas of improvement, and ensure you meet program requirements for continuation or graduation.

Personal information updates

You can update your personal details, such as contact information, emergency contacts, and mailing address.  You can also update your residence and make declarations.  Keeping this information current ensures that the university can communicate important.

Graduation

If you are nearing the end of your degree, you must apply for graduation through Aurora. Once you declare, you will receive communication to your UM email about convocation ceremonies and the process for verifying your graduation status.

Order documents

You can request official transcripts, enrollment verifications, and other academic document.  These documents are often required for job applications, graduate school admissions, or for professional certifications.

Scholarships and bursaries

You can find financial awards information that is available to students based on their academic merit, financial need, or specific qualifications. You can search for scholarships and bursaries, view application deadlines, and submit applications directly through Aurora. It’s a key resource for offsetting tuition and other university costs.

Students who do not register through Aurora

Faculties and Schools which DO NOT Register using Aurora:
Agriculture Diploma (year 1)
Graduate Studies (some areas only, see the Registration Information Section of the Graduate Studies Academic Calendar)  
Northern Social Work program
Post Graduate Medical Education
Social Work (Inner City Social Work Program & Northern Nursing program)

If you are a member of one of the programs listed above, you will receive information about registering for courses directly from the general office or the program office.

Other Exceptions to registration using Aurora are as follows:

Students taking courses at other institutions
  • Some U of M courses are offered in partnership with the Collège Universitaire de Saint-Boniface (USB). Courses that are offered in partnership with USB are not available for registration through Aurora. If you are interested in taking a course for U of M credit at USB, contact your faculty or school for more information. If you are wanting to take a course at another university, that is not directly affiliated with U of M, you will need to request a letter of permission. Students who are challenging a course for credit
  • In some cases, a student may already have credit for a course that cannot be transferred to the U of M. In these situations, students can 'Challenge the course for Credit'. Students that are challenging for credit will be required to demonstrate their skills in the course(s) that they are challenging. If you wish to challenge a course for credit, you must contact your faculty directly.
Students who are auditing
  • Some students wish to participate in a course's lectures, but do not wish to be tested on the content of the course. This is referred to as auditing a course. Students who are auditing a course will not receive credit for the course. To audit a course, please contact your faculty.

Security and Aurora

All information held within Aurora is secure. As a student, you are responsible for your Aurora account and your login information.

Aurora User Agreement

In order to use Aurora, you must agree to the terms of usage. You will be prompted to accept these terms on your first login, as well as each year prior to the start of Fall and Winter Term registration. The terms of usage are listed below:

  • Any information entered or changed using your student account. Unless otherwise noted, any information you enter or change in Aurora will become effective immediately. Do not share your login credentials with others.
  • Checking your UM email regularly. All email correspondence from the UM is to your UM student email account only, including waitlist notifications.
  • Keeping your phone number and mailing address up to date. Some correspondence from UM is made by phone or letter mail – review this information in Aurora to ensure that your contact information is current and valid at all times.
  • Notifying your faculty, college or school office if you have registered for courses at another post-secondary institution since you last registered at UM.
  • Ensuring your Social Insurance Number (SIN) is available for all Canadian tax forms. In Aurora, find the ‘Verify My Sin’ card and click on Help me Verify my SIN to add your SIN if not already listed.
  • Knowing rules and regulations that apply to you. By registering for classes you are agreeing to pay all tuition and fees and to follow UM rules and regulations and those of your faculty, college, school and/or program.
  • Use of unauthorized software to automate registration processes is strictly prohibited.

    The UM is committed to Indigenous Achievement and to ensuring the success of First Nations, Métis and Inuit students and graduates. If you have not previously declared your ancestry or want to change your response, you may do so in the ‘Canadian Indigenous Self Declaration’ card.

    You must agree to these terms of usage each year to access your Aurora account.
