  • ENTR 2020: Starting a New Business

    This is a course for students who may wish to start a business of their own at some time or assess their potential for such an option. It will cover a broad range of topics, including social, environmental and ethical issues in business, to increase your understanding of what it takes to succeed in an entrepreneurial career.

    *This course is open to everyone of all faculties at the University of Manitoba*

  • ENTR 2030: Introduction to Entrepreneurship: Business and Social Perspectives

    Examines entrepreneurship via a social, environmental, ethical, and economic sustainability perspective. Provides proven methods of entrepreneurial thinking to help students explore the relationship between society's need for economic development and costs to and benefits for the environment or other stakeholders, including rural and Indigenous communities. This course may not be held with ENTR 2020.

    *May not be held with ENTR 2020, mandatory course for Asper School of Business students*

  • ENTR 3060: Creativity & Entrepreneurial Thinking

    This course explores creativity, design thinking, and entrepreneurial strategies to drive innovation and value creation. Students develop problem-solving skills and ethical awareness through real-world activities.

    *Prerequisites: ENTR 2020 or ENTR 2030, minimum of 42 credit hours*

  • ENTR 3070: Innovation & Management

    This course covers tools, techniques, and concepts for managing innovation, with a focus on organizational and technological change. It emphasizes ethical considerations and the managerial skills needed to develop and implement new or improved products and processes.

    *Prerequisites: ENTR 2020 or ENTR 2030, minimum of 42 credit hours*

  • ENTR 3100: Small Business Management

    An appreciation of the primary issues that should be considered in starting and managing a small business within the Canadian context. Students may not hold credit with ENTR 2010.

    *Prerequisites: ENTR 2020 or ENTR 2030, minimum of 42 credit hours*

  • ENTR 3102: Technological Entrepreneurship

    This course explores the connection between technology and entrepreneurship, focusing on its economic role, strategy development, and societal impact. May not be held with the former GMGT 3050.

    *Prerequisites: ENTR 2020 or ENTR 2030, minimum of 42 credit hours*

  • ENTR 3104: Selected Topics in Small Business/Entrepreneurship

    Explores recent developments in small business and entrepreneurship, including innovation, financing, opportunity recognition, franchising, social and international entrepreneurship, and entrepreneurial histories.

    *Prerequisites: ENTR 2020 or ENTR 2030, minimum of 42 credit hours*

  • ENTR 3106: Family Business Management

    An examination of the unique challenges inherent in the management of a family business. Topics include founder relinquishment, the need for succession planning and firm regeneration, the core actors and their issues, ownership structure and estate planning.

    *Prerequisites: ENTR 2020 or ENTR 2030, minimum of 42 credit hours*
    *Prerequisite: ENTR 2020 or ENTR 2030*

  • ENTR 4100: New Venture Analysis

    A project oriented course focusing on the identification and evaluation of viable new venture concepts and their associated risks, problems, and opportunities. May not be held with ENTR 4511. Students are strongly encouraged to take FIN 3240 prior to ENTR 4100.

Entrepreneurship Major

When I started at Asper I never thought startups would be part of my career journey - but after taking a few Entrepreneurship courses, everything changed. The program courses and instructors gave me the confidence to become a startup founder, and the knowledge base to launch and grow a successful company. The skills you learn in the Entrepreneurship major will serve anyone in any field, by helping you to think critically about business strategies, identify new opportunities for success, and provide a rounded education for all levels of business operations.
