About the Artist:
Thrown on the potter's wheel and fired in a wood-burning kiln, Jen Sonnenberg’s woodfired pottery features functional porcelain and stoneware that are both modern and timeless. Wood firing creates surfaces and textures that are truly unique, even compared to other pieces from the same firing. Ash and flame leave their marks on each piece, creating surfaces with rustic, earthy textures, beautiful colors, movement, and an energy that tells the story of their time in the kiln.

About the Workshop:
Join Jen Sonnenberg as she demonstrates her creative process and techniques for working with the potter’s wheel. The workshop will cover:

  • Throwing flat discs and transforming them into stretched plates and platters.
  • Combining thrown cylinders with added slabs to create unique, bellied pots (inspired by The Great Canadian Pottery Throwdown).
  • Crafting stamped mugs, time permitting.

This hands-on session offers a chance to explore the art of woodfired pottery and learn from Jen’s expertise in blending functionality and artistry.

Presented by the School of Art Visiting Speakers Series.
