An ambient performance taking place during the opening reception for The Undead Archive, Surfaces sensible is part of a body of work developed by artist Estelle Chaigne during a 2022 MAWA research residency in Winnipeg. Using images from the Hamilton Family Fonds depicting mediums Mary and Mercedes Marshall emitting ectoplasms from their bodies, this performance emphasizes the gendered, visceral, and rather intimate labour of women mediums participating in séances.
