Jeff Spalding’s installation will occupy the “Rotunda” just outside Gallery One One One. Spalding’s instructions are to repaint the Rotunda walls regularly with paint store “seconds.”

Spalding was one of the initiators in the 1970s process art movement in Canada called “layer painting,” the subject of a previous Gallery One One One show and evolving website Newton’s Prism: Layer Painting.

Spalding’s visit and installation are sponsored by Gallery One One One and the Visiting Artist Endowment Fund. Special thanks to Eric Cameron for permission to reproduce his Stride Gallery text.

  • The rotunda outside of the gallery, fitted with large rough-edged green rectangles occupying the upper halves of the corner walls, above the stone dados. Wall text reads “Jeffery Spalding: Neues Bild (Rotunda, Winnipeg) 1976/200” under the one on the left. A wooden bench sits against the wall on the left, and a folding table sits beneath the wall on the right, and a staircase is visible behind the archway in the centre of the image.
