This exhibition was a collaborative project between Gallery One One One, the University of Manitoba Faculty of Architecture’s ARCH 2 Gallery, and the UM’s Icelandic Department. Held at ARCH 2 Gallery on the Fort Garry Campus, the exhibition featured a performance by Hannes Lárusson in the exhibition space, a public lecture at the School of Art on his visual art, and a talk on his architectural restoration project at the Faculty of Architecture’s Centre Space. Special thanks to the Consulate General of Iceland for supporting this exhibition.
About Hannes Lárusson
For years, Hannes Lárusson has explored the relationship between contemporary art and cultural heritage, the role of the artist in society, and the intersection of craftsmanship and ideology. Recognized as one of Iceland’s most significant performance artists, he is known for initiating critical dialogues on art and for creating intricate installations that challenge conventional artistic and cultural narratives.
Lárusson’s major works include:
- Door to Door (Reykjavik Art Museum, 2002)
- The Order of the Carrot (2003)
- Take Me On (Southern Alberta Art Gallery, 2004)
- Ubu Roi meets Humpty Dumpty (in Iceland) (Kling & Bang Gallery, 2006)
Currently, he is working on Íslenski bærinn (The Old Icelandic Farm House), a large-scale, historically rooted architectural project.
Opening Reception & Performance: Friday, September 19, 2008, at 12 pm
