Research interests

Dr. Moghadasian's research interests are in the area of functional foods and nutraceuticals in the prevention of chronic diseases, particularly coronary artery disease and diabetes with a specific focus on:

  • Lipids and lipoprotein metabolism
  • Inflammation and inflammatory markers
  • Oxidative stress and antioxidants
  • Gut microbiome

Current research projects

  • An investigation of cardiovascular benefits of wild rice in healthy volunteers and experimental animals
  • Establishing the mechanisms of anti-diabetic properties of Saskatoon berries
  • Understanding the interplay between diets, gut microbiome and metabolic diseases in experimental animals
  • Anti-atherogenic properties of cyclosrtenol in experimental mice
  • Studying the mechanisms of cardiovascular benefits of kgnegwe seeds in experimental mice
