Dr. Miyoung Suh

Research interests

Dr. Suh’s research is in the area of lipid nutrition and metabolism with clinical and pre-clinical trials, specifically focusing on:

• Smart vertical farm for health
• Lipid metabolisms and molecular mechanisms in neural tissues (retina and brain) and non-neural tissues (prostate)
• Lipid toxicity in chronic disease states (diabetes and metabolic syndrome)
• Nutrition and retina function (diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration)
• Alcohol and fetal brain development (fetal alcohol spectrum disorders)

Current research projects

• Smart farm technology for Northern communities: Utilization of Smart Farm technology to create sustainable nutrient-rich plant food products for obesity and diabetes (re-clinical and clinical)
• Fetal alcohol spectrum disorders: Maternal DHA consumption on fetal brain development in rats with prenatal alcohol exposure (pre-clinical)
• Nutrition strategies for diabetic retinopathy: DHA and lutein enriched eggs on retina health and metabolic and physical parameters in type 2 diabetes (clinical)
• Mechanisms of prostate hyperplasia: Lipid metabolism and function in prostate hyperplasia in an animal model of metabolic syndrome (pre-clinical)
• Fetal alcohol spectrum disorders: Nutrition for Two: development of interactive nutrition research tools and a pretrial for food and nutrition intake trend among the First Nation’s pregnant women (baseline observations)
