Research

Research interests

Dr. MacKay's current research program is focused on clinical trials involving nutrition interventions. Particularly nutritional interventions related to the following areas:

  • Postprandial glucose metabolism
  • Obesity
  • Type 1 and type 2 diabetes
  • Chronic kidney disease

Current projects

  • Reducing dietary acid with fruit and vegetables in people with metabolic acidosis and chronic kidney disease
  • Investigating combinations of nutritional supplements for the prevention of rheumatoid arthritis
  • Investigating the impact of oat polyphenols and fiber on blood pressure and blood glucose response
  • Resistant starch consumption in later stage chronic kidney disease
