Joining UMRA
Join more than 800 current members and associates who are interested in staying engaged with the UM community. You’ll have access to a range of social activities and services to support your health and wellbeing. UMRA helps you maintain links to the University of Manitoba and proudly advocates on behalf of retirees.
Our members continue to make an impact through our endowment funds that support learning and research at UM.

Why join UMRA?
There are many compelling reasons to join UMRA.
- UMRA offers you many opportunities to continue to remain connected with campus life in whatever way you wish, by providing information about events of interest at the university.
- UMRA provides the forum for renewing acquaintances with colleagues and peers, make new friends and enjoy social activities such as the semi-annual President’s reception and other organized events.
- UMRA defends the interests of retirees in the pension and benefits plans of the University and has a representative on the U of M Staff Benefits Committee.
- UMRA has benefits the University offers only to retirees who are members of UMRA and discounted insurance rates for travel, trip cancellation, car, house, and pets available through Johnson Insurance due to UMRA's membership in CURAC.
- UMRA continues to make an impact through our endowment funds (a bursary and a scholarship) and the 2nd prize in a competition for graduate students that support learning and research at the U of M
- UMRA provides an informative Newsletter twice a year.

Signing the membership form is your consent for UMRA to collect information that will be used to correspond with you by mail, telephone or e-mail. UMRA will use the information solely for the purpose of communicating with its Members and Associates. The information will not be provided to any other organization for any reason except for the mass mailing of a publication. The organization doing our mailing shall guarantee the list will be kept confidential. UMRA membership is open to all UM retirees and their spouses or partners.
Membership categories
We offer two categories of UMRA affiliation status:
- Members who pay annually or biannually, or pay a one-time fee
- Associates, who pay no fees
Member

- Eligible to serve on the various committees
- Stay up-to-date with spring and fall retiree newsletters
- Participate in the governance of UMRA, vote in elections and serve as a voting member of the Executive committee
- Participate in activities, such as receptions, field trips and events.
- Take advantage of enhanced benefits from College & University Retirees Association of Canada (CURAC)
- Economical car and home insurance
- PetSecure™ pet care insurance
- RTO/ERO insurance which provides extended health benefit insurance
- MEDOC travel insurance that provides trip cancellation/interruption and emergency health care. Medoc also provides trip cancellation insurance for those who already have out-of-province medical insurance
- Travel planning
The annual membership year is October 1 to September 30.
Associate
UMRA Associates enjoy the following:
- Participate in activities, such as receptions and field trips
- Eligible to serve on the various committees
- Stay up-to-date with spring and fall retiree newsletters
