Join us throughout the year for a variety of events. Some of these are hosted on campus, while others are larger community or national events that we can participate in as part of our commitment to global sustainability awareness.

Become a Sustainability Ambassador

The Sustainability Ambassador Program is a volunteer leadership program for undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in promoting a culture of sustainability at UM through growth, education, research and action.

As a Sustainability Ambassador, you will lead and inspire the campus community to learn more about sustainability and explore how sustainability practices can change lives in a positive way.

Some benefits of being a Sustainability Ambassador:

  • Earn Co-Curricular Credit on your transcript
  • Gain job-related skills and experience
  • Participate in sustainability-related events, projects and research
  • Make new friends by increasing connections within the UM community

Sustainability awards

The UM Sustainability Awards recognize and celebrate the collaborative efforts of students, staff and faculty to advance our campus commitment to excellence and leadership in sustainability.

Undergraduate Sustainability Award

The individual demonstrates:

  • Leadership to educate, advocate and advance our understanding of sustainability in the campus context
  • Sustainable environmental practices on campus and a keen interest in sustainability
  • The link between environmental, economic and social well-being and sustainability in their studies and/or campus activities

Eligibility

Must be a full‐ or part‐time undergraduate student in good standing currently enrolled at the University of Manitoba.

Graduate Sustainability Award

The individual demonstrates:

  • Leadership to educate, advocate and advance our understanding of sustainability in the campus context 
  • Sustainable environmental practices on campus and a keen interest in sustainability
  • The link between environmental, economic and social well-being and sustainability in their studies and/or campus activities 

Eligibility

Must be a full‐ or part‐time graduate student in good standing currently enrolled at the University of Manitoba.

Student Group Sustainability Award

This group demonstrates:

  • Collective leadership and achievement in educating, advocating and advancing our understanding of sustainability within the University of Manitoba campus community
  • A measurable and lasting impact on environmental, economic and social well-being

Eligibility

  • Must be a current UMSU student organization, association or club, student or graduate student association or group in good standing.
  • Individuals are not eligible to receive this award
  • Sustainability does not have to be in the student group’s mandate or mission statement

Staff Sustainability Award

This individual demonstrates:

  • Leadership to educate, advocate and advance our understanding of sustainability in the campus context 
  • Sustainable environmental practices on campus and a keen interest in sustainability
  • Sustainability may or may not be a defined job responsibility

Eligibility

Must be an employee of the University of Manitoba.

Faculty Sustainability Award

This individual demonstrates:

  • Exceptional and continuous integration of sustainability into their teaching, research and engagement activities
  • Classroom teaching, course design and assignment creation to engage their students to make new and unique contributions to the environmental, economic and social wellbeing of their campus and global community
  • Research focus within the sustainability field
  • Sustainable environmental practices on campus and a keen interest in sustainability

Eligibility

Must be an active University of Manitoba faculty member, instructor or postdoctoral fellow.

Deadline for nominations: Tuesday, February 16, 2021

Nominations will be reviewed and the award recipients will be selected by the UM Sustainability Committee.

The winners for the 2021 Campus Sustainability Awards will be announced at Sustainability Day on March 4, 2021.
