Sustainability Ambassador Program
A peer-to-peer network of students working to find solutions to campus sustainability issues. The Sustainability Ambassador Program is the perfect place to build skills and knowledge in the field of sustainability and climate action.

Perks of the program
The Office of Sustainability will give you the tools and resources needed to make your project area successful. We commit to providing the following for each Sustainability Ambassador:
- Career and skill development training and opportunities
- Facilitating peer-to-peer networking and UM community outreach
- Access to mentorship opportunities
- Engaged learning opportunities
- Safe, inclusive, dynamic and passionate team to support your work
- We understand Ambassadors are students, so scheduling is flexible
- Experience Record notation after the completion of the program in April of each year
- Exemplary Sustainability Ambassadors will receive written letters of support or recommendations for internships, jobs, etc.
Important Information
How the Sustainability Ambassador Program works
- Apply to the program and indicate which topic area is of most interest
- Accepted applicants will be sorted into teams which will remain for the duration of the academic year
- Sustainability Ambassadors will be provided with two half days of mandatory career and skill development workshops
- Teams will then work together to make project plans for the year based on the topic area
- At the end of the academic year, Sustainability Ambassadors will be provided with an Experience Record notation and a letter of achievement for their participation in the program
What's expected of you
- 1-2 hours per week for the Fall and Winter semesters (approximately 60 hours total for the academic year)
- Students will not have responsibilities during exam periods

Zero Waste Ambassador
Zero Waste Ambassadors will work to provide educational opportunities for students across campus regarding the UM zero waste goals. This group will work together to plan events, outreach campaigns and projects aimed to reduce waste on campus. These ambassadors will use their skills and creativity to help build a culture of sustainability on campus as the resident waste experts.

Sustainable Transportation Ambassador
Sustainable Transportation Ambassadors will work to provide educational opportunities for students across campus regarding the UM sustainable transportation goals. This group will work together to plan events, outreach campaigns and projects aimed to reduce single occupant vehicle trips to and from campus. These ambassadors will use their skills and creativity to help build a culture of sustainability on campus as the resident sustainable transportation ambassadors. These ambassadors should be regular users of public transportation, or alternative transportation methods such as cycling, walking, running, etc.

Outreach and Events Ambassador
Outreach and Events Ambassadors raise awareness about best practices in the field of sustainability. They will provide learning opportunities for students across campus regarding the UM Sustainability Strategy. This group will be in charge of administering the Green Events Certification program as well as planning general outreach activities around awareness days. These ambassadors will use their skills and creativity to help build a culture of sustainability at UM.
