    Speaker: Hillary Kaell

    Dr. Hillary Kaell is Associate Professor of Anthropology and Religion at McGill University, where she holds a William Dawson Research Chair. She writes about North American Christianity, often focusing on how Christians make and imagine global connections. Walking Where Jesus Walked: American Christians and Holy Land Pilgrimage was published with New York University Press in 2014. She has spoken about pilgrimage and related topics in locations across North America, Europe, and Israel.

     


ABOUT THE LECTURE: 

A hundred years ago, very few Western Christians had ever visited the Holy Land. Today, hundreds of thousands of North Americans visit the places where Jesus lived and died every year. What changed? Why do these pilgrims choose to journey halfway around the world and what do they encounter when they arrive?
