Explore Science Day

Experience the real life of a university science student

2026 What Explore Science Day offers

  • Explore Science Day will have students sit in on 40-minute talks by faculty, researchers, student groups or graduate students, where they can learn about their disciplines and research, and possibly hear a sample of a real university lecture.
  • Students will also take part in a tour, lab activity or workshop from another department, as well as have a chance to meet with student clubs and advisors.
  • This entire day will take place in our Fort Garry Campus lecture halls, labs, classrooms and buildings, giving students an immersive experience that can’t be beaten!
  • To allow students to explore the disciplines they find most interesting, each student will be given a chance to sign up and indicate their top subject areas.

2026 What you need to know

  • Explore Science Day is meant to be more independent than a typical field trip.
  • Students do not need to apply through their school or classes; they can apply individually.
  • Though multiple students from a school or class may apply, the students will not be kept together during the day and are instead led by UM science students in groups with similar interests.
  • Spots for Explore Science Day are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Not all students who apply from a school or class may be offered a spot, and not all those who are offered a spot will be offered a spot in their top three choice departments.
  • Students must be in Grades 11 or 12 to attend.
