Research summary

Dr. Xiaochen Gu’s research program focuses on development and evaluation of innovative oral, topical, transdermal and parenteral drug delivery systems for various chemical entities (e.g., insect repellents, sunscreens, antifungal and antitumour agents, etc.). He utilizes state-of-the-art instrumentation specializing in dosage form research and development, including HPLC systems, automatic diffusion systems, texture analyzer, rheometer, etc. He also carries out interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research projects, in collaboration with national and international collaborators, from both academia and pharmaceutical industry.

Biography

Dr. Xiaochen Gu is a professor at the College of Pharmacy, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Manitoba, Canada. He is a renowned researcher in the field of pharmaceutics and drug delivery systems. Dr. Gu’s research program focuses on the development and evaluation of innovative drug delivery systems for various chemical entities, such as insect repellents, sunscreens, antifungal and antitumor agents, etc. He has collaborated with national and international collaborators from both academia and the pharmaceutical industry.

Dr. Gu earned his Doctor of Philosophy in Pharmaceutics in 1990 and Master of Science in Pharmaceutics  in 1987. He completed his postdoctoral training in pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics at the University of Manitoba, Canada, from 1993 to 1997. Dr. Gu also holds a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (B.Sc. (Pharmacy)) from Nanjing University, China, which he earned in 1984.
