Teaching philosophy
My teaching philosophy is centered on the belief that students are multifaceted individuals with experiences beyond the classroom.
I strive to create an inclusive, supportive environment where students grow both academically and professionally. I aim to emphasize connecting theory to practice and encourage students to reflect on the broader implications of their work, fostering critical thinking and compassion.
My goal is to help students become skilled professionals who approach their work with integrity, empathy, and a commitment to excellence.
Biography
I have a diverse professional career that encompasses clinical nursing, education, and healthcare leadership. Since 2012, I have served as a registered nurse in internal medicine at St. Boniface Hospital, where I have assumed various responsibilities, including those of a charge nurse and a continuing education instructor. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I was a frontline nurse, providing direct patient care in a high-pressure and rapidly changing environment.
Since 2014, I have been a nursing instructor at the University of Manitoba, where I contribute to the development and delivery of theory and clinical courses, with a focus on clinical practice, skills courses, and medical-surgical theory.
I remain committed to maintaining an active clinical practice to ensure that my teaching is informed by current healthcare practices.
Additionally, I have contributed to the nursing community in roles such as a competency-based interview assessor for the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba and as a member of the Continuing Competency Auditor Committee.
