It is a great pleasure to work every day to help develop confident future nurses who will be the health care professionals of the future. A quote that resonates with me is ‘Teach the way you’d want to be taught’ (unknown), which is how I aim teach and is reflected in three teaching beliefs I hold.
I believe learning occurs best in a supportive, inclusive and safe environment where students feel comfortable to learn. I believe that students should be inspired and excited about what they are learning and applying in practice, so making connections to the clinical environment is important in teaching for students to understand the relevance and importance of what they are learning. I believe in teaching with a learner centered focus, where the teacher's role is to act as a guide.
