Research summary

My research program in the College of Nursing, Rady Faulty of Health Sciences, is focused on promoting social justice and equity in the provision of health and social services to populations at risk for poorer health outcomes.

Through community-based research, I seek to build knowledge and advocate for changes in programs and policies to address the needs of vulnerable populations. Most recently my research involves leading an interprofessional collaborative team of researchers from the Colleges of Nursing, Pharmacy, Medicine and Rehabilitation Sciences. Our interprofessional team is researching the experiences of refugees and providers of refugee health care within the health care system in Manitoba.

Our next study will build on these findings and seek to learn from interprofessional groups of students about their knowledge gaps in providing care to refugees. Ultimately our goal will be to develop an interprofessional simulation learning experience to address these knowledge gaps and to develop student competency in providing care to refugees. Our research team has mentored undergraduate and graduate student researchers and we continue to welcome this opportunity.
