Teaching philosophy

My philosophy of teaching and learning is to provide an equitable, inclusive, and empowering learning environment while respecting diversity and valuing the individualized needs of all learners. Throughout my personal education, I observed educators who had lost their enthusiasm and passion for teaching and students who were exceedingly stressed.

I developed an intense desire to become an instructor who fosters a culture that celebrates diversity, ensures learners feel valued and supported, and an educator that unquestionably shares their passion for nursing and education.

Biography

The past few years I have focused my career path and academic pursuits on learning and developing the important skills necessary to work in nursing education. My clinical experience is in the operating rooms as a certified Pediatric Perioperative Nurse, in the Children’s Hospital Operating Room. I honed my skills in providing specialized care to pediatric patients undergoing surgical procedures. This experience has equipped me with a deep understanding of the intricacies of perioperative nursing and the unique challenges and considerations involved in caring for young patients in a surgical setting.

I obtained my Masters in Nursing with a teaching and education focus because I am passionate about continuing education, and I always strive to gain a more in-depth perspective of nursing and adult education. I have experience teaching topics such as ‘The Challenges Nursing Students Encounter Within the Clinical Learning Environment’, ‘The Use of Reflective Practice in Health Discipline Education’, and ‘Healthcare for New Canadian Immigrants’. My final capstone project was focused on 'Pre-operative Anxiety Reduction Methods in School-aged Children'.

In a professional capacity, my teaching has centered around interprofessional collaboration, clinical preparation and education for students going into specialty clinical settings, senior practice faculty advising, and skills lab.
