Dayna’s teaching style is one of a facilitator. Her goal is to lend support and encourage rather than take a "sage on the stage" approach. She aims to link theories with clinical practice, often using storytelling from her own experiences to help students solidify their learning with real-life scenarios. She encourages learners to go outside the expected and explore what it is about nursing specifically that motivates them in their chosen field. Being able to build relationships with students throughout the program and celebrating their successes as they go truly brings her joy.
Dayna is an Instructor II in the College of Nursing at the University of Manitoba.
After graduating from the University of Manitoba Nursing program in 2011, Dayna worked in the NICU, Adult Day Surgery and enjoyed a long-term position in Neurosurgery. Dayna also had the opportunity to explore the roles of CRN in general medicine and nurse educator in orthopedic trauma.
In an effort to gain more professional opportunities and spurred by her love of the educator role, Dayna graduated with a master’s of nursing with a focus on teaching in 2018 from Athabasca University.
Since joining the College of Nursing in 2019, Dayna has been fortunate enough to engage with students in many roles including simulation facilitator, skills course leader, theory instructor and faculty advisor for senior practicum.
Dayna looks forward to many more exciting roles at the College of Nursing by enhancing her professional development and engaging in multiple college committees.
