Research Internship Program

Research Internships provide an exciting opportunity for undergraduate and graduate nursing students to gain hands-on research experience in a supportive environment alongside other research interns and staff. Students develop practical research skills and receive training that is transferable to their academic studies and future professional roles. They are also given opportunities to co-lead and/or contribute to a wide range of research and scholarly activities and outputs.

Overview

Research assistants within the MCNHR Research Internship Program play a key role in supporting and coordinating research and evaluation projects.

Start date: May 2026
End date: April 2027
Hours of work: 10-15 hours/week (in-person; Mon. to Fri.)
Salary: Undergraduate student $20/hour; graduate student $23/hour; and benefits

Qualifications

  • Must be a student enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in the College of Nursing, or Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, or a related discipline such as Psychology or Sociology.
  • Understanding and educational training in research methods.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and respectfully in writing and verbally with others including supervisor, faculty, staff, and study participants.
  • Experience in using various computer programs and applications including library databases, Microsoft Office, data analysis software etc.
  • Ability to synthesize and summarize data and information from literature and research.
  • Excellent organizational skills required.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy are essential.
  • Previous research or related experience is required.

Representative duties

  • Assists in developing data collection tools, tracking systems, and standard operating procedures for research projects.
  • Assists in various phases of research and evaluation projects, including ethics, data collection, analysis, and interpretation.
  • Conducts literature and information searches, retrievals, reviews and synthesis.
  • Meets and communicates regularly with research supervisor to discuss progress, issues and status of work.
  • Assists with CV formatting and entry into online systems.
  • Assistance in the preparation of presentations, infographics, research posters, reports and publications.
  • Provides other research support, as required.
