Genetic and Genomic Diagnostics Post-Doctoral Residency Program

The Genetic and Genomic Diagnostics (GGD) program is designed to train individuals in the field of clinical laboratory genetics. This hands-on program will develop the knowledge, skills and competencies in the areas molecular genetics, cytogenetics and genomics and apply these in a clinical laboratory setting for patients impacted by genetic conditions.

Residency details

Individuals completing the program will meet the training requirements necessary to sit for the Genetic and Genomic Diagnostics (combined Molecular Genetics and Cytogenetics training) certification examinations offered by the Canadian College of Medical Geneticists.

Training is offered in a centre accredited by the Canadian College of Medical Geneticists by certified clinical laboratory geneticists at the Genomics laboratory at the Health Sciences Centre Winnipeg.

Admission and application requirements

Application deadline: October 15, 2026

A training opportunity is available from July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2029.

To apply for this program, you must:

  • Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada
  • Have doctoral training with a strong background in Genetics
