Gillian Alcolado, PhD
Research summary
Dr. Alcolado is a clinician scientist whose clinical work informs her research questions, and whose research outcomes evolve her clinical practice. Her focus is on treatment of anxiety and related disorders from a cognitive-behavioural therapy approach. Dr. Alcolado’s current research projects include a novel cognitive therapy intervention for compulsive checking, CBT for anxiety disorders during the perinatal period, brief large-group CBT, and emotion regulation changes following CBT for posttraumatic stress disorder. She has received internal grant funding from the University of Manitoba and community level funding from The Winnipeg Foundation and the Manitoba Medical Services Foundation to conduct her investigations.
Biography
Dr. Gillian Alcolado an assistant professor in clinical health psychology at the University of Manitoba and a clinical psychologist at the Anxiety Disorders Clinic of St. Boniface Hospital.
Dr. Alcolado received her PhD from Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec and completed her residency at St. Joseph’s Healthcare in Hamilton, Ontario.
In her clinical practice she uses cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) to work with adults suffering from anxiety and related disorders.
Her research interests include the treatment of anxiety and related conditions (including obsessive-compulsive disorder and posttraumatic stress disorder).
Dr. Alcolado has published her academic work in book chapters and peer-reviewed journals and has presented her findings at local and international conferences.
