Dr. Sapna Oberoi is a highly-regarded medical professional and academic. She currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and Child Health at the Max Rady College of Medicine at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Manitoba. In addition to her primary role, Dr. Oberoi holds two cross-appointments: Assistant Professor of Pediatric Oncology-Hematology Bone Marrow Transplantation at CancerCare Manitoba and Adolescent and Young Adult Oncology Lead at CancerCare Manitoba.
Dr. Oberoi's research interests are focused on sarcomas, supportive care and symptom management, adolescent and young adult oncology, and survivorship. She is also affiliated with two renowned research institutions in Manitoba: the Paul Albrechtsen Research Institute at CancerCare Manitoba, where she serves as an affiliate scientist, and the Children's Hospital Research Institute of Manitoba, where she is a clinical investigator.
Dr. Oberoi's educational background is just as impressive as her current role. She began her medical studies in India, earning a bachelor of medicine and bachelor of surgery (MBBS) from Lady Hardinge Medical College at the University of Delhi in New Delhi. She then went on to earn two doctor of medicine degrees from the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research in Chandigarh, India: one in pediatrics and one in pediatric hematology oncology.
She continued her training with advanced studies in pediatric hematology oncology at CancerCare Manitoba and the University of Manitoba, a fellowship in clinical practice guidelines from the Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario, and a fellowship in pediatric hematology oncology from The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. She then pursued a master's degree in community health sciences from the University of Manitoba.
Dr. Oberoi's hard work and dedication to both research and patient care have not gone unnoticed. Dr. Oberoi has published more than 50 scientific paper in many high impact peer-reviewed journals and has received several accolades for her work, including the Preparing for Research by Engaging Public and Patient Partners (PREPPP) Award from the Centre for Healthcare Innovation in 2019 and an Operating Grant from the Manitoba Medical Services Foundation in 2020.
