Biography

Dr. Zarychanski is a professor of internal medicine at the Max Rady College of Medicine. He is a hematologist, critical care physician and clinician-scientist at the University of Manitoba and CancerCare Manitoba.

His research focuses on the hematologic aspects of critical illness where he leads several national and international randomized trials in the fields of sepsis and anticoagulation and transfusion medicine, including anticoagulation in vasodilatory shock, plasma exchange in sepsis, and tranexamic acid in major non-cardiac surgery.

Building on international adaptive platform trials he led in the COVID-19 pandemic, and multiplatform methods developed to promote global collaboration, Dr. Zarychanski is the Chair of GUARD-Resp, an international platform trial evaluating multiple therapies to improve outcome for patients with respiratory infection.

He is also a co-principal investigator for several additional adaptive platform trials in the fields of critical care and hematology.
