Dr. Giuseppe Retrosi’s clinical interests concentrate on minimally invasive surgery and neonatal surgery. His research focuses on surgical education and congenital anomalies.
Dr. Retrosi is an assistant professor in the department of surgery at the University of Manitoba. He is also a pediatric general surgeon at the Health Sciences Centre, Children’s Hospital of Winnipeg.
After his pediatric surgery training, he worked as research fellow and clinical fellow in several hospitals in London, England including Great Ormond Street Hospital, St George’s Hospital, and Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, where he refined his research and minimally invasive surgical skills.
During his time in the UK, Dr. Retrosi completed a master’s in surgical education at the Imperial College London, improving his teaching skills and learning how to apply educational theories to surgical training.
In 2015, Dr. Retrosi returned to Rome to work as pediatric general surgeon at A. Gemelli Hospital, Catholic University of Sacred Heart in Rome, Italy before moving to Toronto to start a NICU surgical fellowship at Sick Kids Hospital, receiving extra-training for the management of neonates with surgical issues.
During his career, Dr. Retrosi took part in three different missions to developing countries to develop pediatric surgical care in under resourced environments, including: two missions to Eritrea (November 2007 and April 2008) and one mission to Nepal (February 2011).
