My teaching philosophy has continued to evolve throughout my career. Presently, I teach each level of student with different goals and expectations, yet with a common idea; to facilitate each learner’s ability to strive for excellence and advance more than their teacher.
Teaching initially involves understanding each student’s learning style, their current knowledge base, and their ability to process new information. Then education occurs based on the unique learning characteristics of each student.
I believe that it is a failure of the teacher if the majority of residents and fellows do not achieve competence in their field.
