Dr. Bybel’s research is mostly clinically based with a focus on improving patient outcomes using nuclear medicine diagnostics and therapeutics. Collaboration with other specialties on clinical research is an important factor for his nuclear medicine research.
Dr. Bohdan Bybel is the section head of nuclear medicine in the radiology department at the Health Sciences Centre and assistant professor at UM.
He obtained his medical degree and specialty training at UM with additional residency training received at the University of Western Ontario.
Prior to returning to Winnipeg, he spent several years as a staff physician at the Cleveland Clinic in the nuclear medicine department.
He is clinically active in general nuclear medicine, nuclear cardiology and PET oncology and neurology with board certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, American Board of Nuclear Medicine and the Certification Board of Nuclear Cardiology. He also has an interest in nuclear medicine treatments including for neuroendocrine cancers, thyroid cancer, bone metastases and radiation synovectomy.
Dr. Bybel participates in many local and national committees related to nuclear medicine and radiology, as well as being a reviewer for multiple imaging journals.
He is also the former nuclear medicine chief examiner for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
He is an active member of many professional associations including the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, European Association of Nuclear Medicine and the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology.
