Research summary

Dr. April Boyd’s research focuses on the basic science and engineering factors affecting vascular diseases, including abdominal aortic aneurysms and peripheral vascular disease.

Research interests

  • Investigation of factors affecting atherosclerotic carotid artery plaque rupture
  • Investigation of the relationship between human abdominal aortic aneurysm tissue pathobiology and computational fluid dynamics to improve prediction of aneurysm growth and rupture

Biography

Brief bio

Dr. April Boyd is a vascular surgeon, surgeon-scientist, and research director at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg. She completed her undergraduate degree at Queen's University and her master’s degree and PhD in physiology at the University of Toronto, where she also obtained her MD and completed general and vascular surgery training. Dr. Boyd joined the University of Manitoba in 2006 and was the first woman president of the Canadian Society for Vascular Surgery.
