Dr. Rivard’s research interests are in adult learning theory and the acquisition of technical skills; outcomes in cancer surgery and knowledge translation.
Justin Rivard completed his doctor of medicine, master of surgery and residency in general surgery at UM. He then completed a clinical fellowship in surgical oncology at the University of Calgary after obtaining his Canadian and American Board Certifications in general surgery. He is an assistant professor surgical oncology at UM. Dr. Rivard is a surgical oncologist and general surgeon with appointments at Health Sciences Centre, CancerCare Manitoba and Grace General Hospital. His clinical interests focus on complex colorectal cancer, breast cancer, melanoma and soft tissue sarcoma. Dr. Rivard has been nominated for several teaching awards by the Manitoba medical students association and was presented the award for teacher of the year by the general surgery residents in 2017. Dr. Rivard is the melanoma disease site chair through CancerCare Manitoba and he is also the Foundations of Surgery program director.
