Research summary

Marcelo Urquia’s current research focuses on the intersection of gender, immigration and health and wellbeing, using a life-course perspective. Topics include maternal and birth outcomes, immigration and health, intimate partner violence, child marriage, family and adolescent health, and international health.

He is also interested in understanding health risks using a family perspective, as opposed to treating individuals as if they were unrelated statistical units. His research approach is primarily based on the analysis of large linked population-based multisectoral databases.

He is currently developing measurement of family structure in the Manitoba population to advance research in the area.
