Research Interests

My research uses geophysical methods to map electrical conductivity. It exploits electromagnetic signals from the Earth's magnetosphere, ionosphere and atmosphere, and from a variety of geophysical transmitters. These signals penetrate to different depths, allowing imaging of the conductivity from the near-surface to several hundred of kilometres. My primary research focus is on electromagnetic studies of the Earth's crust and uppermost mantle, conducted to define 3-D geological structure and tectonic history of the North American continent. A second research focus is near-surface electromagnetic studies, in which geological, groundwater, environmental, archeological, and engineering targets are investigated using electromagnetic imaging from 0.5 to 500 m depth.
